Another view of the Type A armament sub-system mounted on an M113 series APC. In this case the vehicle commander’s overhead hatch is in the closed position. Notice the close proximity of the vehicle commander’s gun shield to the driver’s position. The noise and muzzle blast of the weapon being fired directly above his head must have been extremely unpleasant. (Michael Green)

Looking down onto the roof of an M113 series APC fitted with the Type A armament sub-system. The gun shields for the two 7.62mm M60 machine-gunners located on either side of the overhead hatch for rear passenger compartment are offset and not directly opposite each other to allow the gunners room to move without bumping in to each other.
